Test Shoot with Victoria Henley

Los Angeles 2019

Victoria Henley walked runway during an LA fashion show. A few days later we were outside near her hotel with her wardrobe and and a plan to see what we could produce.

Victoria got ready, did her own makeup with her mother assisting. The three of us walked the block, looked at what the locations offered, and roughly matched wardrobe to background before we started. Nothing written down. A conversation, a few quick decisions, and then we shot.

Five looks. Graffiti walls, an iron gate, a hibiscus plant, a stucco wall, a pink corrugated metal door. Available light throughout, shade-seeking on a bright Los Angeles day. Victoria styled everything herself, which meant the decisions about what to put together and where to stand were as much hers as mine. That kind of collaboration produces something a fully produced shoot usually does not: a point of view that belongs to the subject.

Victoria appeared on the nineteenth season of America's Next Top Model in 2012. Check out her podcast.
